About Me
My Name is Derek Williams:
Qualifications: I was awarded an M.A. in psychotherapy from the University of Northampton for my research into the impact of legislation on internalised homophobia. I also hold a post graduate diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy from the Centre of Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE); a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy from the London College of Clinical Hypnosis (LCCH), Diploma in Clinical Supervision from the CPPD Counselling School, a Diploma in Gender and Sexual Minority Therapy recognised by Middlesex University, a degree in law (LLB) and worked as a qualified Solicitor in the City of London for many years (I am still a qualified but non-practising Solicitor). I adhere to the rules of professional conduct for UKCP, BACP and BSCH.
Professional Bodies: I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and I am a registered and accredited Psychotherapist and accredited Supervisor of other psychotherapists with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am also a full member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH).
My Approach: I work with clients in an integrative way which means that I do not adopt a single approach with clients – I use a multitude of approaches. That enables me to design and agree unique approaches for each client using various therapeutic techniques. By combining therapeutic approaches in an appropriate and gentle setting change can be facilitated at a core level. Whether you have decided to enter into therapy to address a specific issue or for personal growth the therapeutic relationship will enable you to work towards the outcome that you desire within a safe environment.
My Background: Before qualifying as a psychotherapist, I worked as Solicitor for 30 years. I was both a partner and departmental head of a respected firm of solicitors in the City of London. I retired from the law in order to complete my studies in psychotherapy. Having worked in the City I have personal experience of working in high pressured professional environments and the stresses and strains that those working conditions can create. Many of my private clients come from similar work backgrounds. I have a particular interest in psychological issues that arise for individuals where there is a conflict between their work environments and their private lives.
